Kampong Cham Orphanage

The Orphanage in Kampong Cham, located on the banks of the Mekong River, was started in the late 1990's as a ministry for a local Christian family. The orphanage currently serves 33 children from a few months up to teenagers. Children have arrived at the orphanage with a variety of backgrounds. Some had been abandoned by their families, other children lost their families to disease and accidents, while still others had mothers who chose to have their children and give them to the orphanage instead of having an abortion.

Children stay at the orphanage until they are at least 18 years old and are capable of caring from themselves. The children who are of school-age attend the local school which is just down the road from the orphanage. The daily routine includes cleaning their rooms, taking care of the few animals at the orphanage, and whenever possible, a game of marbles or soccer.  In the dry season, the children are able to play soccer on the river bed of the Mekong.

In October 2006 some members of THE WAY ministry went to the orphanage and built a playground for the kids.  The following year, October 2007, a dental mission team, many of whom are members of THE WAY ministry, provided some much needed dental care for the orphans.  In addition to dental supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.) each child was also given a Bible.

The cost to feed and provide shelter for the orphans is about $40 a month.
